About

My name is Sara Iqbal, aged 20, enrolled at Toronto Metropolitan University pursuing a degree in Business Management with a focus on Law. Since childhood, I have held a keen interest in politics, often engrossed in the Monday evening news to grasp the nation's pressing matters and the strategies adopted by politicians to address them. Inspired by my father, a proponent of exploring new avenues, I have decided to contest the mayoral position in Mississauga. My unique perspective, tailored to resonate with younger demographics and those advocating for change, equips me to address the prevailing challenges faced by the city's youth effectively. I acknowledge the significant issues confronting Mississauga and stand prepared to contribute to their resolution. My vision is to create a Mississauga where every resident has access to the services they need, where businesses thrive, and where community spirit is strong.

Housing Crisis

  • The 2024 Mississauga budget outlines the housing targets mandated by the Province for municipalities throughout Ontario. Mississauga has been assigned a target of 120,000 new units to be constructed within a decade.
  • I propose accelerating this timeline to six years, thereby increasing the urgency for contractors and developers to expedite the execution of affordable housing initiatives.
  • Furthermore, the establishment of a dedicated housing committee tasked with overseeing permits and developments can proactively address challenges to prevent any potential bottlenecks.

Mental Health Services

Establish inclusive mental health initiatives to support individuals, especially the younger demographic, during periods of declining mental well-being. This may involve setting up community-oriented mental health facilities, providing counseling services, crisis intervention, and integrating mental health education in academic institutions like schools and universities.

Transit & Recreation Services

  • Propose budget allocation for infrastructure upgrades, road safety, public transit like MiWay, and eco-friendly fleets.
  • Focus on reducing commute times, especially for public transportation users.
  • Implement a senior program offering free MiWay access to individuals aged 55+, enhancing their mobility for recreational and medical purposes.
  • Introduce a senior-youth bridge program to connect high school students with seniors, fostering knowledge exchange and technological learning.
  • Increase investments in recreational facilities for youth, expand free drop-in programs for teenagers and seniors to promote physical activities and inclusive spaces, aiming to support youth well-being and development.

Let's work together to empower Mississauga's youth for a brighter future and a community where everyone can thrive!
